Fair Trade

I think it’s fantastic to see all the young female apprentices and tradies these days … decked out in their fluoro gear and PPE on the various construction sites around Hobart and beyond.

More so when that clobber is teamed with pink floral lunch bags and boxes like I noticed a couple of young women carrying recently!

A woman electing to pursue a trade was hardly an option and a VERY rare commodity when I left school in the mid-eighties.

I still don’t think I’d put my hand up for it now, but I definitely admire and am intrigued by the young women these days who do.

So much so, that I wrote about a young female chippie in my debut novel.

Seeing the young women leaving their crib room recently was like looking directly at ‘my Ashleigh’.
